조 바이든 미국 대통령이 '반도체 굴기'를 강화하는 모습입니다. 인텔이 오하이오주에 200억달러를 투자해 새로운 반도체 시설을 짓는다고 발표했습니다. 흥분된다면서요.

"역사적 투자"라고 치켜세우고 했습니다. 삼성이 미국에 반도체 신규 공장을 짓다는 사실도 언급했습니다. 이 모두 중국을 의식한 행보입니다. 중국의 반도체 산업을 눌러 글로벌 가치사슬에서 중국을 따돌리겠다는 포석이기도 합니다. 좋은 일자리를 만들고 미래를 '메이드 인 아메리카'로 바꾸자고 역설했습니다.

바이든 대통령은  미국의 재건에 팔을 걷었지요. 도로와 다리, 인터넷 등 허물어진 사회간접자본(인프라)을 다시 짓고 제조업 기반을 다져 미국의 경쟁력을 높이는 정책을 힘있게 밀어붙이고 있습니다. 지난 1월20일이 취임 1년입니다.

그가 남긴 정신에 따라 살아가면서 마틴 루터 킹 목사가 우리나라가 될 수 있다고 믿은 것은 심사숙고 보다 더 한 것을 요구합니다. 행동을 요구합니다. 그래서 의회는 투표권을 보호하는 연방 입법안을 통과시켜야 합니다.

I am profoundly disappointed that the Senate has failed to stand up for our democracy. I am disappointed — but I am not deterred. We will continue to advance necessary legislation and push for Senate procedural changes that will protect the fundamental right to vote.
