바이든, '낙태권' 보호에 정치 사활 거나

조 바이든 미국 대통령은 연방대법원이 그동안 용인됐던 낙태권을 뒤집은 판결을 하자 강경하게 대응하고 있습니다. 트위터와 백악관 연설에서 "공화당의 극단주의 부류들과 결탁해  판결을 뒤집었고 앞으론 동성결혼, 피임 등도 위헌이라고 결정할 위험에 처해 있다"고 꼬집었습니다.

바이든 대통령은 낙태권을 보호하기 위한 연방 차원의 법률 제정이 가장 빠른 해결책이라고 주장하며 11월 중간선거 때 민주당 지지를 호소하는 등 위기를 기회로 바꾸는 노력도 병행 하고 있습니다. 민주당 지지자들이 대응책을 내놓으라고 촉구하고 나서자 반발의 수위를 높이는 양상입니다.

 7월 4일 독립기념일을 맞아근면과 인내 그리고 신념이라는 미국의 정신을 다시 강조하고 있습니다.

With yesterday's announcement that we're implementing the Special Financial Assistance program, iron workers, bricklayers, carpenters, plumbers, truck drivers, food workers, and their union brothers and sisters will have the dignified retirement they earned and deserve.

Today, with the addition of 372,000 new jobs in June, our private sector has recovered all of the jobs lost during the pandemic – and added jobs on top of that. We have more work to do. But no country is better positioned than America to face global economic challenges.

Today I signed an Executive Order to protect the reproductive rights of women in the aftermath of the Supreme Court's extreme decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. It formalizes the actions I announced right after the decision and will add new measures to protect women's health.

오늘 저는 로우 대 웨이드 판례(임신 중절에 관해 미국 대법원이 1973년 내린 조건부 합헌 판결, 지금까지 여성의 임신 중절권 보장의 근거)를 뒤집는 대법원의 극단적인 판단에 따라 여성의 생식권한을 보호하는 행정명령에 서명했습니다. 행정명령은 그 대법원 판결 즉시 발표한 조치들을 공식화하고 여성의 건강을 보호하는 새로운 대응책이기도 합니다.

We cannot and we will not allow an out of control Supreme Court working in conjunction with Republican officials pushing an extremist agenda to take away our freedoms and our personal autonomy. Congressional Republicans want abortion to be illegal. But let me tell you something: As long as I'm president, I will veto any attempt. I don't care what they try to do. I will never let it become law.

우리는 우리의 자유와 개인 자율성을 뺏으려는 극단주의자들의 주장을 밀어 붙인 공화당 간부들과 결탁한 대법원의 통제 밖 행동을 용인 할 수도 없고 용인 안 할 것입니다. 공화당의원들은 불법적인 낙태를 원하고 있습니다. 그러나 제가 뭔가를 말하도록 해주세요. 제가 대통령으로 있는 한 저는 어떤 시도에 대해서도 비토권을 행사할 것입니다. 저는 그들이 하려고 하는 일을 고려하지 않을 것입니다. 저는 그것이 법제화하는 것을 결코 그대로 놔두지 않을 것입니다.
